ACUPUNCTURE HAS BEEN FOUND TO BE PARTICULARLY HELPFUL IN THESE CONDITIONS:

  • anxiety
  • insomnia
  • inflammatory conditions
  • acute musculo-skeletal sprains + strains
  • gyncecological issues including pelvic pain, hormone imbalances + infertility
  • gastroinstestinal symptoms
  • post surgery detox
  • post surgical symptoms
  • concussions
  • fibromalgia
  • PTSD
  • as well as many other conditions

Results can be seen more quickly in acute problems whereas chronic or more severe symptoms often require a few treatments to determine the potential benefit. Some patients may require ongoing, less frequent treaments.

WHAT IS MEDICAL ACUPUNCTURE?

The ancient art of acupuncture is more than 2000 years old, yet has maintained relevance as a therapeutic modality. The foundation of the Chinese medical theory is the belief that channels of energy run in regular patterns through the body and over its surface. These energy channels, called meridians, are paths through which the life-energy known as “qi” {pronounced chee} flows. If the energy becomes blocked, stagnated or weakened, the result can be physical, mental or emotional ill health. Through acupuncture the meridians can be unblocked to help the body’s ability to heal itself.

In modern biologic terms, the concept of “qi” can be likened to cellular communication through channels not fully understood in Western medicine. Needling or low energy laser stimulation of the acupuncture points results in a chemical cascade which can have wide-ranging effects on body, including but not limited to: pain modulation, regulation of the autonomic nervous system, as well as stimulation the body’s natural healing abilities.

One of acupuncure’s primary effects is the balancing of the autonomic nervous system which helps control the body’s basic functions. Many people experience an overall sense of well-being, decreased anxiety, less inflammation, as well as improved mental and physical functioning.

WHAT ARE THE NEEDLES LIKE? DO THEY HURT?

Unlike the familiar hypodermic needles, acupuncture needles are not hollow and are extremely thin—multiple acupuncture needles could fit into the barrel of a hypodermic needle. Consequently, more often than not patients do not feel the needle insertion. If pain does occcur, the benefit of recovery far outweighs the sensation of momentary discomfort. Some treatments utilize low energy laser stimulation which is painless.
